Liliopsida
Descripción
Más conocidas como monocotilédoneas, es un grupo que comprende unas 50.000 especies que se caracterizan por:
- Son generalmente herbáceas, siendo raras las leñosas.
- El sistema radical es adventicio.
- No tienen cambium, por lo que los haces vasculares son cerrados y aparecen dispersos en 2 o más anillos. Por esto carecen de crecimiento secundario en sentido estricto, si bien en algunas ocasiones presentan un crecimiento secundario especial.
- Hojas con los nervios paralelos o pinnados paralelos, en ocasiones reticuladas.
- Las piezas florales aparecen en conjuntos de 3, raramente 2 o 4, pero nunca 5.
- Los granos de polen tienen una única abertura por lo general.
- Las semillas tienen un solo cotiledón, siendo muy raro dos.
